The Latvian Academy of Culture announces an open international competition for the position of the Rector
The Latvian Academy of Culture (LCA) announces an open international competition for the position of the Rector (a public official for a fixed period of time: 5 years from the date of entry into office).
The applicant for the position of the LCA Rector has the following basic requirements:
- a doctoral degree in arts or a professional doctoral degree in arts or an academic position of an elected professor in the field of arts at any Latvian or foreign university (a doctoral degree is considered an advantage);
- experience and achievements in culture, the humanities and arts at least over the recent ten years (the thematic field of education - arts) and higher education (experience in an international environment is considered an advantage);
- management experience in the field of higher education, culture and arts, in the management of state or local government institutions or their structural units and joint-stock companies, cultural and creative sector companies or non-governmental organisations;
- knowledge of the Latvian language at least at C1 level and knowledge of at least two foreign languages, one of which is English at least at B2 level;
- impeccable reputation;
- understanding of cultural education, higher education, science and innovation system in Latvia;
- vision of LCA's mission, goals and place in the context of Latvia and Europe, directions of LCA's activities as an art and culture university, effective management of human resources, financial resources and infrastructure and management of change, creation of international strategic partnership and participation in international networks; the ability to present it, arguing and basing it on the current regulatory framework and the available resources of LCA;
- motivation to work at LCA and understanding of the Rector's competence and role in implementing the development strategy of LCA.
A monthly salary starting from 4539.00 EUR before taxes.
Application process (document submission procedure)
An application for the competition should be submitted by January 15, 2024 at 17.00 EET:
- in the form of an electronic document, using a secure electronic signature, which contains a time stamp, by sending it to the electronic mail address admin@lka.edu.lv with the reference "For the Competition for the Position of the Rector of the Latvian Academy of Culture of Latvia";
- the application should be signed by hand, placed in a closed envelope with the indication "For the Competition for the Position of the Rector of the Academy of Culture of Latvia" and submitted to the LCA Personnel Department, Room 14, 24 Ludzas Street, Riga.
- Documents should be submitted in Latvian (the national language). Documents submitted in a foreign language should be accompanied by a translation to Latvian (may also be non-notarised).
- Applicants for the position of the Rector shall include the following documents in their application:
- the application, including your contact information (phone number, e-mail address), information on compliance with the requirements set for the candidate for the position of the Rector, including a certificate of impeccable reputation, and also a certificate of consent to the status of a public official;
- a personally signed and dated curriculum vitae (Curriculum Vitae Europass format), including information on his/her professional and academic career, achievements in research and/or achievements and experience in the field of culture, creative sector and management, self-assessment of language skills and other skills, which in the opinion of the applicant may be useful in the work of a university rector;
- the certificate of election to the academic position of professor in the field of arts and the Degree in Arts or Professional Doctoral Degree in Arts or its copy. If the doctoral degree has been awarded abroad, a certificate should also be submitted stating that this degree has been recognised in Latvia, indicating to which degree it corresponds in Latvia.
- a vision of the strategic development of LCA in the next five years (in the form of theses, no more than four pages).
The competition selection procedure will proceed in several rounds in accordance with the Regulations on Rector Elections approved by the LCA Council (available at: https://ej.uz/LKA-nolikums). The final decision will be taken by vote at the Constituent Assembly of the Academy.
