LAC Representatives Seek Solutions for a More Inclusive and Respectful Society at International ACE²-EU Workshops
From 28 to 30 September, Santarém Polytechnic University hosted the Knowledge Creation Team Workshops of the ACE²-EU European University Alliance, focusing on Social Well-Being and Respect & Dignity.
Seven representatives of the Latvian Academy of Culture (LAC) took part in the intensive three-day programme, bringing together academic staff, students and external partners. LKA was represented by lecturers Signe Bahšteina and Ance Kristāla, students Elizabete Granta and Paula Jaunslaviete, as well as external partners Zane Matesoviča (British Council Latvia), Maija Pavlova (Ģertrūdes ielas teātris) and Reinis Darkēvics (Apeirons – Association of People with Disabilities and Their Friends).
During the workshops, LAC representatives worked in international teams to identify current challenges and develop proposals for addressing them. Discussions explored ways to create more accessible and inclusive higher education environments, foster respectful coexistence within diverse communities, strengthen social connections among young people, and encourage shared responsibility for public spaces. Participants jointly developed ideas and potential courses of action that could contribute to sustainable social and environmental impact both within higher education institutions and in society more broadly.
The workshops brought together participants from higher education, civil society and professional practice, providing an opportunity to combine diverse experiences and perspectives. This interdisciplinary collaboration strengthens the capacity to understand and address complex societal challenges while fostering new partnerships and the development of joint initiatives at the European level.
The workshops were organised within the framework of the SPACE Centre Social Impactors, which bring together representatives of higher education institutions, experts and industry professionals to jointly explore solutions to current socio-economic challenges. The Social Well-Being Social Impactor is led by Santarém Polytechnic University, while the Respect & Dignity Social Impactor is led by representatives of Universidad Francisco de Vitoria.
