Latvia Participates in the World Intellectual Property Organization’s Pilot Project on Measuring the Creative Economy

Latvia has joined the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) international pilot project for testing a new methodology for measuring the creative economy. Latvia’s participation in this initiative became possible thanks to the initiative of prof.Ieva Zemīte, researcher at the Institute of Arts and Cultural Studies of the Latvian Academy of Culture (LAC), and the dialogue she initiated with WIPO experts at the International Conference on Cultural Economics held in Rotterdam in 2025. At the national level, the project is led by the Ministry of Culture and involves the Central Statistical Bureau, the Ministry of Economics, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, and other partners.

LKA Launches Special Issue of Culture Crossroads Celebrating the Tenth Anniversary of the Spanish Language Conference

On 28 November, as part of the annual ACEBaltic (Association of Spanish Scientists in the Baltic Countries) event, the launch of the Special Issue of the Latvian Academy of Culture (LAC) scientific journal "Culture Crossroads Vol. 29" took place at the National Library of Latvia! The Special Issue was created in honour of the tenth anniversary of the Spanish Language Conference organised by the LAC Department of Cross-Cultural Communication and Foreign Languages. Among the participants was the Ambassador of Spain to Latvia, Manuel Alhama Orenes.

Latvian Academy of Culture Institute of Arts and Cultural Studies: Interdisciplinary Research of the Cultural and Artistic Ecosystem, Public Engagement and International Cooperation

The Institute of Arts and Cultural Studies (IACS) of the Latvian Academy of Culture (LAC) is one of the most dynamic research institutions in the humanities and social sciences in Latvia, fostering an interdisciplinary approach to the study of cultural processes, the arts and the creative sector. Its recent growth is reflected in the rapid expansion of research projects, the number of scientists involved, and the volume of competitive funding attracted. This development has been driven by targeted support for recruiting outstanding researchers and building multi-generational research teams in the institute’s priority fields. Research is carried out in close cooperation with the cultural and creative industries sector: researchers identify development barriers, highlight opportunities and challenges, and propose solutions for cultural policy-makers and related public policy sectors.
