The analysis of the cultural consumption diaries within the SRP project CERS has been completed!

08.09.2025

This summer, Līga Vinogradova and Lote Katrīna Cērpa from the Institute of Arts and Cultural Studies concluded the analysis of cultural consumption diaries carried out as part of the SRP project CERS. At the end of last year, participants from across Latvia were sought who would be willing to keep a cultural consumption diary—including digital activities—for one month. Given the time-consuming nature of this task and its long-term collaborative format, the researchers are delighted with the engagement and interest this project has sparked! In total, 20 cultural consumption diaries and 20 in-depth interviews conducted after diary completion were analyzed.

We would like to express our gratitude to all research participants for their resilience, diligence, and responsible work in writing the cultural consumption diaries!

The volume of data and the chosen analytical approach required both researchers to demonstrate considerable creativity, but the work was engaging and provided many valuable insights! The data obtained enabled a deeper understanding not only of the on-site and digital cultural consumption habits of Latvia’s population and the interactions and variety of consumption models they form, but also offered broader insights into how cultural consumption habits develop over the course of life and the circumstances that foster diverse cultural choices and activities. For example, the study highlighted intriguing connections between childhood experiences and current cultural consumption, residents’ participation in diverse amateur art activities, and their choices among activities competing with culture, such as sports or gardening.

Key conclusions and findings about the methodology will be published in at least two academic publications, while the diary data will be included in a report on digital cultural consumption, to be prepared by the beginning of next year. The researchers have already been able to share the data and methodology at conferences and also plan to present the study at this year’s LAC conference, “Culture Crossroads.” Stay tuned for updates so you don’t miss out!
