
LKA Institute of Arts and Cultural studies at the 13th ESA Sociology of the Arts Midterm Conference
On September 8–9 in Barcelona (Spain), the 13th Midterm Conference of the European Sociological Association (ESA) Research Network Sociology of the Arts took place. The Institute of Arts and Cultural Studies (IACS) of the Latvian Academy of Culture (LAC) was represented by lead researchers Anda Laķe and Rūta Muktupāvela, researcher Līga Vinogradova, and research assistants Ance Kristāla, Lote Katrīna Cērpa, Sabīne Ozola, and Laura Brutāne.
Over the course of two days, IACS colleagues presented seven papers:
- The Troubled Young Artist: Navigating Activisms and Anxieties (author: Ance Kristāla);
- Youth and Museums in Dialogue: Mapping Motivations and Barriers in Participatory Museum Practices (authors: Laura Brutāne, Lote Katrīna Cērpa);
- Engaging Young Audiences: The Role of Cultural Operators in Fostering Youth Participation in Cultural Activities (authors: Sabīne Ozola, Laura Brutāne);
- Cultural Participation Trends Across Generations: A Roadmap for Latvian Policy Makers (author: Līga Vinogradova);
- Art Literacy as a Prerequisite and Barrier to the Development of a Professional Art Audience: An Example of Academic Music (authors: Rūta Muktupāvela, Anda Laķe);
- Rethinking Participation: New Ways Youth Engage with Culture (authors: Sabīne Ozola, Līga Vinogradova);
- Data, Drama, Discovery: Knowledge Production at the Intersection of Research and Art (authors: Lote Katrīna Cērpa, Ance Kristāla)
