Book Launch of Alexander Etkind’s Internal Colonization to Take Place at the Latvian Academy of Culture on 13 November
On Thursday, 13 November, at 16:00, the Latvian Academy of Culture (LAC) will host the launch of the Latvian translation of the renowned historian and cultural scholar Alexander Etkind’s book "Internal Colonization: Russia's Imperial Experience." The event will take place on the 2nd floor of the LAC “Gara māja” (Miera iela 58a).
The book has been published in Latvian by Jumava Publishing House. It is one of Etkind’s most influential works, offering an original interpretation of Russian history – portraying Russia as an empire which, lacking overseas colonies, has “colonized itself from within” over the centuries, forming a unique model of imperial experience.
During the event, Alexander Etkind will be in conversation with Gustavs Strenga, Associate Professor at the Latvian Academy of Culture.
The discussion will be held in English, without translation.
