Foreign students share their cultures at the International Dinner
At the end of last week, our international students from nine different countries came together to present their cultures, traditions, and, of course, delicious food!
This semester’s dinner table stretched long, filled with diverse and lovingly prepared dishes. For some students, it was their first experience cooking complex dishes and experimenting in the kitchen. The event highlighted the importance of sharing and celebrating each student’s unique heritage. Many students even admitted to spending nearly the entire day preparing for the dinner, reflecting their eagerness to share their culture with others.
This time, we journeyed from Spain, with traditional Tortilla de Patatas, to Kazakhstan, where students introduced us to Baursak. Along the way, we tasted various breads and potato dishes from our German students, Lasagna and Tiramisu from Italy, and cakes and Crêpes from France. This year also marked the first time Egypt was represented, with a student preparing Egyptian Kushari, a dish made with pasta, rice, chickpeas, and crispy onions. Additionally, we had the pleasure of tasting a Finnish cake for the first time. As in past years, a Slovak student prepared Slovak dumplings, bringing back memories of previous Slovak students.
During the meal, students enjoyed tasting each other’s dishes and sharing stories from their home countries. Events like these bring students closer together and foster a deeper understanding of the rich diversity within our community.
